WELCOME TO MY JOURNEY.
In late spring 2024, after watching a documentary on Frida Kahlo following a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, I felt inspired to create a project that, like Kahlo’s work, would use my life as a subject through illustrative metaphor.
Hearing about the 100-day project, I decided to formalize my habit of drawing digital mandalas before bed, selecting a palette inspired by the vibrant textiles of Puerto Vallarta. Using Procreate, I exclusively employed a dry ink brush for the foreground and an airbrush and Hartz brush for the backgrounds.
Initially, the project flowed easily but by day 30, I began feeling restless, sensing my creativity stagnating as the designs had become shape-heavy. I introduced new elements like dots, spotlighted backgrounds, as well as mythical elements. This artistic “restlessness” occurred multiple times- see if you can spot the shifts!
During this project I had also entered a period in my life where I was seeking growth and spiritual renewal. The 100 day project afforded me an outlet as I went through that beautiful, yet awkward, and messy process of birthing the authenticate self. As the project concluded in late summer, I had begun to embrace my empathic, sensitive self as well as explored my shamanistic talents, in the process creating something beautiful to share with the world.
